CAIRO: Egyptian girls dream of a new active campaign aiming to achieve safer streets, without having to endure any form of sexual harassment.

The campaign ‘We Will Ride Bicycles’, created by the Facebook page ‘Girls Revolution,’ is simple and purely dedicated to encourage women’s rights in Egypt and the Middle East.

The ‘We Will Ride Bicycles’ objective is to break the restrictions of society imposed on women in a new, unconventional way.

‘Girls Revolution’ announced yesterday a cycling event totake place on October 12 at 7am.

One establisher of ‘Girls Revolution’ Facebook page, Michael Nazih, told Youm7, “The campaign idea is based on acknowledging women’s rights while exercising and working out, and encouraging women to move freely through the streets of Cairo without any form of harassment.”

“Cycling is a fun and useful sport and it could be transformed into a form of transportation to eliminate traffic jams in Cairo,” Nazih added.

The registration deadline to participate in We Will Ride Bicycles is October 6. The purpose of the event on its official Facebook page is “to ride a bicycle and feel the breeze of air as it is one of our simplest dreams.”
