CAIRO: The Saudi decision to consider the Muslim Brotherhood, the Syrian Islamic State of Iraq and the Levent (ISIL) and Hezbollah as terrorist groups is an important step that asserts the prestige of the country, said Zohair al-Harthy, member of the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

Harthy, during an interview on Al-Arabiya channel, said that Saudi Arabia insists on confronting terrorism, maintaining the security and stability of the country and emphasizing the concept of moderate Islam.

He added that jihad will not be achieved, as the Saudi king would not authorize this. He explained that there are some movements that push young men to places to fight, what could well result in the tragic loss of their lives.

“The issuance of a decision considering ISIL, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist groups was necessary to bring them to reason,” Harthy added. Terrorist behavior can be devitalized by efforts of security services and by finding a comprehensive strategic plan based on eliminating terrorist thought by counter thought, he went on.

The Saudi official elaborated that Saudi security services succeeded in taming terrorist operations, killing and arresting some members of extremist groups. “We need enlightened scholars to confront the thought of extremist groups,” he said.
