Explosion hits Suez church, security sweeps region

SUEZ, Egypt: An explosion rocked the Latin Church and Al-Ahly Bank in the city of Suez on Saturday evening, Sept. 28. Suez Security Director Maj. Gen. Khalil Harb said that security forces at the province level started a major sweep of the region and surrounding institutions the following morning.

There were no casualties, but two suffered minor injuries, reported Ahram Online.

The sweep began from the Ahmed Hamdi tunnel and the surrounding areas of the canal waterway as a safety procedure after the blast.

The security director told Youm7 that the situation in surrounding institutions is stable and work has continued regularly in government and private institutions and schools. He said the blast that occurred did not affect everyday activities.

Harb added that traffic flow returned to normal on Bradees Street, where the explosion occurred, after the Defense Department, the Third Army and explosives teams had closed the road to sweep the area.
