CAIRO: Several Coptic movements, including Maspero Youth Foundation for Development and Human Rights, will hold protests next Sunday in front of the headquarters of the United Nations in Garden City to demand international sanctions on Libya for the killing and targeting of Copts, according to a Friday press release by the groups.
The release said they would file a complaint about the killings to the UN and called for the formation of an international commission to investigate the murders.
Seven Copts had been dragged out of their homes by Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia and were found shot in the head outside Benghazi on Feb. 24.
On a similar note, Pope Tawadros II’s secretary called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Friday to facilitate the return of 300 Copts to Egypt from Libya, who had lost their passports.
The ministry said it would send a plane to bring them back.
