BEIRUT: Former Arab League chief Amr Moussa said that he supports Field Marshal Abdel Fatah el-Sisi to run for president.
The chairman of the 50-member committee that wrote the new constitution of Egypt, who is currently visiting Lebanon, stressed that Sisi is the best choice for the presidency as the country needs a firm hand that can end a state of chaos that is prevailing in Egypt.
In his speech to the Lebanese Economic Forum on Saturday, Moussa added that the Arab world cannot be led by Iran or Turkey. Both countries could be friends, he noted. “The natural leader of the region is Egypt along with Saudi Arabia,” he explained.
The veteran diplomat foresaw that the Geneva II conference on the Syrian crisis would not be successful. There might be Geneva 5 or 6 until effective players in the crisis like Iran and Turkey be involved in figuring out a solution, he went on to say.
