100 students jailed, education minister demands their release

CAIRO: Members of the executive offices in all governorates prepared an initial list of the names of imprisoned students from each governorate, said Ashraf al-Sawy, secretary of the students union of Egypt.

The list uncovered that the total number of the imprisoned students reached around 100 students from all over Egypt and is handed over to Minister of Education Mahmoud Abou el-Nasr.

The secretary of the students union said that all the imprisoned students are in secondary schools and only student only is in his preparatory stage. He stressed that communications took place with minister through the student Amgad Yehia, assigned by the committee of the students union to follow up on the file of the imprisoned students.

The union demanded the minister to intervene to get the imprisoned students and those jailed pending investigations released, Sawy added, expressing the keenness of the union to serve the interests of the students and their future.

Sawy further said that the minister responded to their request saying that he would speak to the concerned bodies to demand the release of the students.
