ALGIERS: Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal chaired Saturday in Algiers a ceremony in honor of Algerian women, held to mark the International Women’s Day.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Government, representatives of the civil society, MPs and figures of Algerian Revolution (1954-1962).

In an address read on his behalf by Mohamed Ali Boughazi, the adviser at the presidency, President Abdel-Aziz Bouteflika paid tribute to Algerian women for their long combat and achievements.

“The celebration of the International Women’s day provides me an opportunity to share with you a moment when your long struggle to improve your own condition and status is highlighted and when light is shed on those women who have contributed, through sacrifices, to the independence of Algeria,” Bouteflika stressed.
