ANKARA:  An opinion poll in Turkey showed that a recent graft scandal has hurt Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP), which weathered mass street protests in mid-2013.

A survey by Ankara-based pollster MetroPoll showed support for the AKP at 36.3%, far below the 50% it garnered in 2011’s parliamentary elections, Turkey’s Cumhuriyet newspaper reported.

Votes for the main opposition, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) rose to 28%, the Nationalist Movement Party to 14.6% and the Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party 6.7%, it added.

The latest survey by Metropoll is a result of responses given in the week of February 19-23.
