CAIRO: Ten lawsuits filed by lawyer Samir Sabry demanding that several Muslim Brotherhood leaders be stripped of their Egyptian nationality were referred by the Administrative Judiciary Court to the State Commissioners Authority on Sunday.
Tarek al-Zomor, Amr Derag, Mahmoud Ezzat and Gamal Heshmat are among the leaders specified in the lawsuits.
Sabry’s lawsuit is based on Article 10 of Law No. 26 for the year 1975 which authorizes the Cabinet to strip citizens of their Egyptian nationality in specific circumstances.
Article 7 of the law authorizes the Cabinet to drop the nationality of those who join organizations that aim to destabilize Egypt socially and economically.
Article 8 of the law grants the Cabinet the right to strip Egyptian citizens of their nationality if they intend to harm the economic, military or diplomatic positions of Egypt.
