4 suspects referred to criminal court over espionage crimes

CAIRO: Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat on Monday ordered four suspects to be referred to Cairo Criminal Court over charges of collaborating with and spying for Al-Qaeda and planning terrorist attacks against Armed Forces and police and foreign facilities inside the country.

The four suspects are identified as Amr Mohamed Abul Ella, Mohamed Abdel-Halim Hemida, Mohamed Mostafa Mohamed and runaway Kurdish national Dawood Al-Asdi.

They are charged with spying for Al-Qaeda by providing the terrorist organization with information about Armed Forces personnel in the Sinai Peninsula.

They also face charges of forming a group aiming at breaking the law, preventing state institutions from performing their duties, attacking personal freedoms and harming national unity and social peace.
