TEHRAN, Iran: A senior Iranian lawmaker reaffirms Tehran’s stance on diplomatically resolving the crisis in Syria, saying the US support for terrorists poses a danger to regional and international security, Press TV reported on Wednesday.
“Since its beginning, we believed that Syria crisis has a political solution but the US and its allies complicated the situation by supporting terrorist groups,” Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a Tuesday meeting with Chairperson of Croatia Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee Milorad Pupovac in Tehran.
“Reinforcing terrorist groups has endangered the security and peace of the region and the world,” the Iranian legislator added.
Syria has been the scene of deadly violence since March 2011. Over 130,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil.
Boroujerdi further pointed to great capacities of Iran and Croatia to bolster cooperation in all areas and said, “Parliamentary ties can play an effective role in accelerating the expansion of mutual relations.”
Pupovac, for his part, said Croatia welcomes bolstering cooperation with Iran in various sectors.
He praised Iran’s active role in promoting peace and stability in the region and called for close consultation between Iranian and Croatian officials on regional and global developments.
