CAIRO: The Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab is holding an urgent meeting Saturday night. Rumors spread that this meeting is held to discuss and announce the resignation of Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Youm7 reported.
The official reason for the urgent meeting has not been announced.
Military spokesperson Ahmed Ali denied the rumors the Sisi would resign in Al-Hayah Al-Youm talk show on Al-Hayah TV channel. He added that it is the personal choice of the field marshal whether or not to run for president.
In addition, former member of parliament Mostafa Bakry wrote in a tweet: “I do not expect that Sisi will resign today, and the meeting will address taking extreme measures against terrorism, insulting the Armed Forces and media crossing the line.”
Sisi is widly expected to run for president. In order to do so, he must resign from his position as minister of defense first.
