CAIRO: Ancient Egyptian antiques were placed for auction online, the Egyptian Community Council in the Netherlands said in a Sunday statement to Youm7.
The council’s research center claimed their estimated value was higher than 700 billion EGP ($100 billion).
Council spokesperson Sami al-Qadi said there were more than 5,000 pieces on sale and that the rare antiquities were smuggled out of Egypt during the revolution, and under Mohamed Morsi’s rule.
The Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim called on the British Minister of Foreign Affairs last Friday to halt the sales, posted on Ebay, al-Ahram online newspaper reported.
