CAIRO: European Union Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton will arrive in Cairo on Tuesday for a three-day visit, MENA reported.
Ashton is to meet with the interim President Adly Mansour and other senior officials in the government such as Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nabil Fahmy and Minister of Defense General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
Ashton will also meet with leading figuresof the Freedom and Justice Party Mohamed Aly Beshr and Amr Darrag, MENA said.
Ashton recently announced her willingness to visit Egypt again if requested, to provide advice and assistance. She emphasized that the move should not be interpreted as “interference in Egypt’s affairs.”
Her visit on Tuesday will be the third since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
“The EU does not take sides in Egypt, which is a fundamental partner for the EU. It is important that Egypt shapes a future for all Egyptians through presidential and parliamentary elections.” Ashton told MENA.
