Electoral commission prepares for referendum on constitutional amendments

CAIRO: In preparation for the upcoming referendum on the proposed constitutional amendments, the High Elections Commission (HEC) supervising the referendum asked the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of State for Administrative Development to update voter lists.

The commission held its third meeting Saturday in its headquarters in Heliopolis, a judicial source told Youm7 on Sunday.

The HEC assigned the ministries of interior and administrative development certain tasks such as the verification of the database of Egyptians living abroad, the inclusion of adults above 18 years old in voter lists, updating the database within Egypt and omitting names of the deceased and enlisted soldiers, the source said.

The Saturday meeting, presided over by the Head of the Court of Appeals, Nabil Salib, decided to appoint Judge Naser Awad, head of the Judicial Inspection department, as the commission’s Secretary-General.

The Secretary-General’st asks are to include supervising the printing of the ballot papers and the allocation of polling stations nationwide, according to the source.
