CAIRO: Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab expressed deep grief on Wednesday for the death of two military servicemen during a security operation in Qalyub early in the morning.

“Our heart goes out to the families of the deceased heroes who sacrificed their lives in the service of the homeland,” he said, expressing gratitude to the lost officers and all other brave and patriotic military and police martyrs “who have carved their names with pride among the country’s national heroes.”

Mahlab stressed that “Egypt will prevail in its war against the forces of darkness and terrorism,” thanks to the courage of its patriotic people.

The Armed Forces expressed deep sorrow in a statement released earlier in the day for the death of two of its bomb experts in confrontations with terrorists in Qalyub.

Brigadier Maged Saleh and Colonel Maged Qellini of the Military Engineering Force lost their lives while in the line of duty during a joint police and army raid on a terrorist hotbed for manufacturing and storing large quantities of highly-explosive materials, booby traps, car bombs and explosive belts in the Nile Delta city of Qalyub.

The two martyrs, who sacrificed their lives to serve the homeland and in protection of its security and stability, have been an outstanding example of military excellence, valor and discipline, the statement by the army read.
