BEIRUT : Egypt’s Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, now visiting Beirut, stressed that Egypt does not interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs.

“On the contrary, Egypt supports Lebanon and all Lebanese parties,” Fahmy said during a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Jebran Bassil on Friday.

He added that Egypt seeks to complete the roadmap in a bid to ensure a promising future for its people.

“Our Arab roots have never been disputable,” Fahmy said, adding that Cairo looks forward to establishing a civilized Arab society.

Fahmy conveyed also Egyptian President Adly Masnour’s warm regards for the Lebanese government and people.

He said that the Syrian crisis and the peace process were tackled during his meeting with Bassil.

Answering a question about Syria’s raids on Lebanese cities, Fahmy said all states should respect international law and the sovereignty of other states.

Bassil, on his part, said Egypt and Lebanon are facing many challenges in the current stage.

Lebanon stands by Egypt in its efforts to solve the Palestinian problem, Bassil said, stressing any solution should include the right of return.

Bassil thanked Egypt for its historical role toward the Lebanese people.
