CAIRO: Interim President Adly Mansour issued a final statement regarding the appeal of decisions made by the Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC) through a written letter sent to political parties on Saturday, Youm7 reported.
After consulting with the General Assembly of the Constitutional Court, the president said political parties’ demands that the SEC’s immunity be banned cannot be responded to within the current transitional period.
The presidential decree issued on March 8 has been a source of dispute among politicians, particularly because it violated article 97 of the constitution forbidding the granting of immunity to the electoral commission.
Mansour expressed his views from a judicial point of view in a March 16 interview on CBC, confirming that such a decision was in the best interest of the upcoming elections.
