CAIRO: Minister of Defense Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi examined on Tuesday a military parade of the new “airborne rapid deployment force,” Military Spokesperson Ahmed Ali said in a statement on his Facebook page.
Sisi has decided to form the rapid deployment force in order to confront “terrorism” and other challenges threatening Egypt during the transitional phase, Ali wrote.
The military parade was also attended by General Sedky Sobhy, the military chief of staff, and a number of military leaders.
The force is the first of its kind in the Egyptian army, Sisi said in a video released on Ali’s Facebook page. He said it is supported by the latest weaponry in the world.
The formation of the airborne rapid deployment force reflects Egypt’s addressing of problems with advanced military force rather than traditional solutions, former head of the Moral Affairs Department of the army Samir Farag said in a phone call to Dream TV channel Tuesday.
Farag said the new methods of carrying out “terrorist” attacks require such advanced mechanisms by Egypt’s army, Youm7 reported.
