CAIRO: Presidential hopeful and Popular Current Founder Hamdeen Sabbahi’s campaign will start its first official demonstrations Saturday to promote his electoral program by organizing human chains in all governorates, said campaign manager Hossam Moenes Tuesday.
Sabbahi’s campaign is not official yet, as candidate lists must be declared by the Supreme Electoral Commission. Dates for the elections as well have not yet been set.
Interim President Adly Mansour will respond to political parties’ suggestions on Saturday on controversial presidential elections law article concerned with granting immunity to SEC decisions, said the presidential advisor for constitutional affairs Ali Awad in press a statement Friday.
Popular Current spokesperson Heba Yassin told The Cairo Post Tuesday that the human chain demonstrations will start at 4:30 p.m. with an observance of a moment of silence to honor “the death of the martyrs,” referring to those who died the January 25 Revolution, and will end at 6:00 p.m.
During the protest, “they will ask again for the revolution’s demands; bread, freedom, human dignity and punishment,” Yassin said, adding that whenever the candidacy door is opened, they would start collecting signatures for those supporting Sabbahi, who announced his plan to run for president Feb. 8.
