CAIRO: Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will become president through “vote rigging,” Mohamed Gamal Heshmat, a member of the supreme body of the Freedom and Justice Party, said during a Wednesday phone call to Al-Jazeera TV channel.

On Wednesday, Sisi resigned from the position of minister of defense and officially announced his bid for the presidency.

The Supreme Electoral Commission had invited international and local organizations to monitor the presidential elections, according to the commission’s website.

A statement posted by the pro-Muslim Brotherhood National Alliance Supporting Legitimacy on its official Facebook page condemned Sisi and his bid, saying “[Sisi] betrayed the January 25 Revolution and broke the oath he gave before elected President Mohamed Morsi by overthrowing him and implicating the Egyptian army in a political struggle.”

The alliance also called for mass demonstrations on Friday under the banner of “Together for Salvation.”

Magdy Korkor, the alliance’s coordinator, told the pro-MB Rassd news website Wednesday, “Whether Sisi stays as defense minister or becomes president nothing will change … he will not be able to achieve the dreams and demands of his supporters.”
