CAIRO: Tamarod announced that they will be staging demonstrations on Friday to celebrate Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi‘s announcement of his bid for president.
Sisi resigned from his position as minister of defense on Wednesday, announcing that he will be running in the presidential race, in a televised speech.
Spokesperson of Tamarod Mohamed Nabawy stated in a phone call to Al-Hayat TV on Thursday that they have received a permit from the police to demonstrate throughout squares in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy called for new demonstrations on Friday, under the motto of “Together Towards Salvation,” the alliance announced in a Thursday statement.
The NASL will hold its Friday demonstrations to demand the reinstatement of former President Mohamed Morsi, who was removed from office on July 3, after mass protests demanded his resignation.
Sisi said in his televised speech that he was a soldier in the service of the country, and now it is time to heed to the people’s call to run for president.
Sisi officially tendered his resignation to the government on Thursday. Meanwhile, Colonel General Sedki Sobhi swore in as the new Defense Minister.
