Start of “Orphan Day” celebrations in Egypt

CAIRO:  Over 500 orphaned children celebrated at Al-Azhar Park in a governorate sponsored festival to support international Orphan Day on Friday, Youm7 reported.

Headed by Cairo Governor Galal Saeed, the event marked the international awareness day for issues facing orphans, which was March 26. Children from different orphanages participated in events organized by a number of civil associations. They were also given gifts and prizes and enjoyed entertainment and musical performances.

Governor Saeed said during the event that the governorate is taking efforts to support all associations that care for orphans.

In Arish, the Hadoot Association for Development also organized events for Orphan Day, Veto Gate reported Friday. More than 100 orphans received gifts in the event, according to Adel Rostom Chairman of the Hadoota’s board of directors . The celebration also held art, culture, and sports contests, as well as a puppet show.

In Wadi Gedid, the Family House Association organized a celebration for orphans on April 4, according to el-Fagr news. The celebration is to include many events to support orphans and give them gifts and toys.
