CAIRO: The High Presidential Elections Commission headed by Counselor Anwar al-Asi announced Friday that the registration for candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections will begin on March 31, judicial sources told Youm7 Friday.
“The commission will receive candidacy applications for 21 days, in which presidential candidates must submit their applications for candidacy,” the source said.
The commission will hold several meetings on Saturday and Sunday, secretary general of the Presidential Elections Commission Hamdan Fahmy said in the press conference on Friday. They will discuss all the requirements needed to complete their preparations for elections to open the door for candidates by March 31.
The committee agreed to include Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in the candidates’ database after he officially submitted his resignation from the military forces, Fahmy said.
“The commission will follow up on the voters’ database, including those who turned 18 years old and have national IDs, as well as army and police officers who retired from service,” he said.
Fahmy will hold a press conference on Sunday following the committee’s meetings “to inform the public of the committee’s decisions.”
Fahmy said the preparations for the presidential candidacy registrations include e-reader devices and the candidacy applications distributed on Thursday to notary offices to be able to receive the candidates’ endorsement.
“The committee coordinated with the Ministry of Communications to provide technical support for the notaries in their office throughout Egypt in case there are any technical problems,” Fahmy said.
