Journalists call for protest, warn of uprising in front of syndicate

CAIRO: A number of journalists called for a protest in black clothes, under the slogan “stop the killing of journalists” on Saturday in front of the Press Syndicate to condemn the killing of Mayada Ashraf.

The journalists said that this protest will be the beginning of a journalists’ uprising, in a statement on Friday.

“Let the killing of Mayada Ashraf by the beginning of the young journalists’ uprising. We invite all fellow journalists o participate in the protest to condemn the killing of our colleague Mayada Ashraf,” the journalists said on Facebook.

Ashraf was shot while she was covering a demonstration by the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy in Ain Shams. Security forces dispersed protesters with teargas and gunshots on Friday, Masr al-Arabiya reported.

At least five died during the clashes, including Ashraf, according to Reuters
