CAIRO: An explosion in a depot of petroleum products in a village in Sohag province killed 10 people and injured 37 others on Saturday.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that firefighters put out the fire before it extended to nearby houses.
It added that a citizen in Shattoura village, Tahta, Sohag, used his house as a depot to store fuel products to sell them in the black market.
A fire erupted in some containers of fuel which were prepared for sale and it extended to the depot inside the house, causing the explosion, the ministry said.
Following the outbreak of the fire, the residents of the village attempted to extinguish it, leaving 10 of them dead and 37 others injured.
However, Sohag police chief Ibrahim Saber told MENA that 40 people were injured in the explosion
