CAIRO: Hamdeen Sabbahi‘s campaign will request the airing of a statement by the presidential candidate announcing his bid through the state’s Maspiro television building, Amr Badr , the campaigns media spokesperson, told Youm7 Saturday.

Badr said the request is a reaction to Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s official announcement that he would run for president through Maspiro, adding that presidential candidates need to have equal chances.

The campaign will submit Sabbahi’s candidacy documents a week after the High Presidential Elections Commission announces opening the door for elections, Ambassador Maasoum Marzouk, the campaign’s official spokesperson, told Youm7.

Hassan Shahin, Tamarod movement’s co-founder, told Youm7 that Saturday would mark the start of Sabbahi’s campaign activities, adding that such activities would aim to frame Sabbahi as the candidate of the “January 25 and June 30 Revolutions”  and would target every Egyptian house.

The Tamarod movement appears divided. Several of its leading members declared their support for Sabbahi, while another faction within the movement backs Sisi.

Sabbahi’s campaign organized human chains in all different governorates on Saturday, according to Al-Dostor newspaper.

On Feb. 15, Sabbahi invited Sisi to a public debate, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.

Sabbahi had also said on Tahrir TV channel that detained revolutionaries should be released and prisoners should be treated properly.
