CAIRO: Military spokesperson Ahmed Ali denied any state of emergency in the Suez Canal Sunday on his official Facebook page.

Ali said reports that the Third Field Army was monitoring a weapons cargo at Suez Port were not true.

Al-Shorouk reported Sunday that naval forces affiliated with the Third Field Army had announced a state of emergency after they received a notice informing the military that a foreign ship left a cargo of weapons at the port.

A security source said the weapons cargo was en route to Sinai, Shorouk reported.

Ali said military forces have not performed any security sweeps of the Suez Canal recently, adding that traffic through the canal is running as normal, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
