CAIRO: Students protested Monday against security forces at Al-Azhar University and blocked Youssef Abbas Street, according to a Youm7 reporter.

The students gathered in front of the Faculty of Commerce and ended their march in front of the administrative building of the university, which closed its doors to prevent the storming of the building, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.

The students chanted slogans against the army and police to condemn killing of their colleague Atta Abdullah, who was killed during clashes on Sunday between security forces and students.

Al-Azhar University issued a statement on Monday demanding an urgent investigation about killing two students during the clashes on Sunday.

Female student demonstrated in front of Faculty of Chemistry for girls in Nasr City demanding the release of their colleagues, while security forces remained absent.

Several students cut off Youssef Abbas Street and formed human chains on both sides of street, according to the Youm7 reporter.

Security forces at Al-Azhar University students arrested a number of students for damaging cars.

The workers at the university used fire extinguishers to contain burning cars because the civil protection forces were delayed.
