CAIRO: Security forces defused an explosive device Monday placed near the center of town in Arish, a security source told Youm7.

The source said the device was discovered near the health insurance building in Arish and was immediately deactivated, adding that the device was connected via an electrical circuit and cellphone.

MENA reported that “the makeshift explosive was made of a cardboard package filled with 20kgm of highly-explosive TNT material attached to two mobile phones and detonators.”

Attacks using explosive devices have been on the rise since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, with such attacks taking place mainly in the Sinai.
