CAIRO: A number of families of detained activists, including Alaa Abdel Fatah, Ahmed Doma, and Ahmed Maher, called on Wednesday for protests in front of the Cairo Opera House Thursday.

According to Youm7, the protests are scheduled to last for two hours to demand that authorities release students arrested during demonstrations in different universities.

Cairo Criminal Court had decided on March 23 to release activist Alaa Abdel Fatah on 10,000 EGP ($1,400) bail, pending investigations into accusations that he attacked a police station and organized an unlicensed demonstration, in addition to sabotaging public property and threatening public peace.

A court sentenced both Ahmed Maher and Ahmed Doma to three years in prison on charges of being involved in violent actions around Abdeen Court.
