CAIRO: The series of clashes and violent incidents taking place at many of the country’s universities is expected since the Muslim Brotherhood depend on their student members to create chaos within their schools, said Minister of Higher Education Hossam Eissa during a phone interview on Al-Hayat 2 Channel.

Eissa added that he is not authorized to manage security within universities’ campuses but that the administrations of the universities are the ones responsible for security.

Crowds of students in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Fayoum protested against military rule on Sunday, which marks the first day of the academic year in Egyptian universities.

According to the Facebook page Students Against the Coup, which was founded in mid-July, the “halting of the capital,” begins on September 30 and will continue until October 6 unless, “the military returns to its people and the protection of Egypt’s borders.”
