Egypt working on restoring US economic ties: minister

CAIRO, Egypt: The government is keen to promote the economic cooperation system with the US and put joint relations back on track after they soured in the aftermath of the June 30 Revolution, said Trade, Industry and Investment Minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour.
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting held with a delegation of the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), Abdel Nour said the time is ripe to turn a new leaf in joint economic relations built on the interests of the two countries.

Egypt is an important economic partner to the US in the Middle East and Africa, he said, adding that the Egyptian investment market has become more open than ever to foreign investment inflows.

The Egyptian economy needs to have investments that make more than 30 percent of the gross national product to achieve a seven percent growth rate annually, he said
