CAIRO: One policeman was injured in a bomb explosion in Arish, North Sinai, early Wednesday, according to a security source, reported Youm7.

The source said unknown militants were targeting an armored vehicle affiliated with security forces, adding that they placed an improvised explosive device on the Arish international airport road and remotely blew it up when the security vehicle passed, Shorouk reported.

The injured officer was transferred to Arish Military Hospital.

A handmade bomb also exploded late Tuesday under a police officer’s car near his home in the Faisal district in Giza, injuring the officer and his brother, Ahram Gate reported.

Bomb disposal experts were assigned to inspect the site of Tuesday’s explosion, and a report was filed and referred to the prosecution for investigation, which has gathered testimonies from the injured and witnesses, Youm7 reported.

Since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, Egyptian security forces have intensified their presence in North Sinai. At the same time, Sinai-based militias have conducted numerous attacks and killed a number of security personnel.
