CAIRO: Presidential candidate Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is set to make several media appearances following the announcement of the final list of candidates, scheduled on May 3, spokesperson of Sisi’s electoral campaign Abdullah Al-Moghazy told Youm7 on Thursday.
The delay in Sisi’s appearance in the media outlets is due to the campaign’s precautions not to have any disturbances before the final candidates list is declared, said Moghazy.
“Plotters are keen to take advantage of any faux pas and impact Sisi’s sweeping popularity,” he added.
In a move expected by many Egyptians, Sisi announced his presidential bid late February. He, along with his campaign’s spokespersons, have been criticized for their scarceness in media outlets, compared to his rival Hamdeen Sabahi.
His only appearance in the media so far was a week after he announced his presidential bid, when his photo in a blue training suit riding a bike went viral on Facebook and Twitter.
The first round of voting for Egypt’s presidential elections is schedules to be held on May 26 and 27, while the first round’s results will be announced on June 5. In the event that there is a run-off between two candidates, voting will take place on June 6 to 9, and results will be announced on June 26.
