BAGHDAD: Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs Saleh al-Mutlaq said Tuesday the idea of a third term for Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki represented a risk to Iraq.

“If the Iraqi people couldn’t make the change they would face big problems or even a civil war,” al-Mutlaq told Sky News Arabia.

He warned against a potential voter fraud in the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying “it would lead to an uprising in Anbar province,” as there were no guarantees to prevent fraud.

The April 30 parliamentary elections will be Iraq’s first since the 2011 U.S. troop pullout.
