CAIRO: Qena Criminal Court is scheduled to conduct the first session of the trial of 74 leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood accused of torturing a number of security leaders in Aswan during the violent actions witnessed in the area surrounding the governorate, reported Youm7.

Aswan witnessed increasing violence after the forceful dispersal of the sit-ins organized by Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda Squares on August 14.

According to Youm7, 54 defendants are scheduled to appear before the court on Saturday, while the remaining 20 defendants escaped, including leading members of Gamma Islamiyya and former members of the parliament.

The prosecution accused them of attacking the security forces, burning Central Security Forces’ vehicles, damaging the contents of the building of the governorate headquarters, attempting to kill the security and executive officials.
