CAIRO: The Free Egyptians Party announced that it gained membership into Liberal International during their 59th conference, held in Rotterdam from April 24 to 26, Youm7 reported

The conference was attended by a number of high-profile politicians, including Head of the Parliamentary Bloc of Netherlands’ People Party Hans van Baalen. It hosted Netherlands’ Prime Minister

Liberal International is an international federation seeking to group together democratic political parties with liberal and progressivepolicies

Amr Soliman, head of the International Committee of the party, said in a press statement that the international organization decided to turn the party from an observer member into a permanent member. He added on Monday, “The step proves the capacity of the party to represent the liberal trend in Egypt’s political life”

He added, “We were keen to discuss the positions adopted by the party since its establishment and its political program. We also discussed the political developments and the ways to join the African Liberals Network”

On the other hand, leading member of Free Egyptians Party Mohamed Abu-Habiba submitted his resignation from the party in protest against the party’s support for Sisi during the coming presidential elections

According to VetoGate News Website, Abu-Habiba said, “I was keen to commit to the decisions taken by the party since its establishment in 2011, but the biased position adopted by the party violates democratic principles.”
