CAIRO: A conference of Egyptian tribes endorsed presidential candidate Field Marshal Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi Monday.
During the conference in Sadat city of Menoufia for tribes and farmers of the Green Belt area, tribes’ spokesperson Fathy Amer al-Guhayni affirmed their support for Sisi, announcing that the Monday gathering is a start to found a council for national tribes, Youm7 reported.
The Green Belt is an area allocated by the government for use agricultural use near the new-built governorates such as 6 October.
On April 15, Sisi met with more than 240 tribe representatives, and highlighted their role in building the country.
In October 2013 Sisi launched an initiative asking Sinai tribes to hand over smuggled and unlicensed weapons to the army to combat the flow of weapons through the volatile area. Since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi, the Sinai has seen a number of attacks against security forces and military targets.
