CAIRO: The Ethiopian Oromo Liberation Front staged a protest Wednesday in front of the Arab League headquarters to denounce the suppression of the Oromo by Ethiopian authorities, Youm7 reported.

Head of the United National for Human Rights Mohamed Abdel Naeem said the organization wanted to deliver a message to the world, warning that more than 25 million Oromo people are subject to the largest displacement of civilian population because of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

During an interview on Sada El-Balad TV channel, Naeem stated the allocated lands for establishing the dam are basically the lands of Oromo, who represent more than sixty percent of the whole population of Ethiopia.

Member of the African Parliament and representative of the Ethiopian Oromo Liberation Front Abdel-Salam Souty said the Oromo rejected the building of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which harms large portions of water in Egypt and the Nile Basin countries, El-Balad reported.

Souty said Ethiopia has a dozen of other rivers but the Ethiopian regime insisted on building the dam on the Blue Nile.
