CAIRO:  Investigations conducted by Supreme State Security Prosecution into the case involving 200 suspects affiliated to Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis showed that they received military training in the camps of Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of Hamas.

The leader of Answar Bayt al-Maqdis Tawfiq Mohamed Ziyada contacted with the leaderships of al-Qaeda and declared his support to Ayman el-Zawarhi, according to the investigations.

A total of 200 defendants were referred to Cairo Criminal Court yesterday on charges of committing terror acts.

The 102 suspects, who have been detained, are also accused of other terrorist operations, while the rest are runaways.

The Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group has claimed responsibility for many bombings and other attacks that have taken place in Egypt in recent months.

The prosecutor’s statement refers to the group as “the most dangerous terrorist group”, and accuses the defendants of receiving military training in the Gaza Strip under the patronage of Hamas, and of traveling to Syria where they took part in fighting against government forces there before returning to Egypt.
