May 15: “1971, Sun Ra in Egypt” opening at Medrar

CAIRO: Medrar For Contemporary Art, an artistic organization for arts and media, will host the inauguration of the “1971, Sun Ra in Egypt” exhibition by artist Tom Bogaert on May 15 at 7:00 p.m.

The exhibition will feature the current state of Bogaert’s ongoing project about jazz musician Sun Ra, scheduled to last until June 13.

“Bogaert’s ‘1971, Sun Ra in Egypt’ is an ongoing research project based on the life and work of Sun Ra that exists as a series of performances, lectures, installations, videos, art objects, and a related publication,” the event description on Medrar website announced.

Along with the exhibition, there will be drawings, performances, screening videos, and incarnate art works.

Following the inauguration, two bands will be playing songs by Sun Ra; Aqzam Sharq el-Agouza or East el-Agouza Dwarfs band and Al-Aydy el-Khafya or “Hidden Hands.

The exhibition will be available for visits, after the opening ceremony, all days except for Fridays and Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
