CAIRO: Former Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mahdi Akef was acquitted of insulting the judiciary charges by the Cairo Criminal Court, Youm7 reported Wednesday.

Akef had been accused of insulting the judiciary for claiming that Egyptian judges were “corrupt” during an interview with a Kuwaiti newspaper in April.

In 2010, Mohamed Badie was named supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, replacing Mahdi Akef.
