TUNIS, Tunisia: The Tunisian Minister of Interior Affairs announced Wednesday the arrest of 11 members of an Islamist society over money laundering and terrorism funding charges.

According to a statement by the ministry, the detainees were referred to court to stand trial on the accusations.

The prosecution has earlier ordered that head of Tunisia Alkhair Islamic Society along with two of its members be held in custody in connection with investigations into the case, the statement said.

Tunisia’s interior minister has recently warned that about 150 Islamist organizations operating in the country without authorization are most probably involved in funding terrorist activities.
