CAIRO:  Bab Ash Shariyah Misdemeanor court decided Monday to acquit 169 defendants affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood in the violence and riot actions that took place at Bab Ash Shariyah’s district following the dispersal of their sit-ins in Rabaa and Nahda squares in August 2013.

The prosecution accused the defendants of crowding, breaching the curfew, vandalizing the private and the public properties, belonging to a terrorist group, and endangering security.

The Muslim Brotherhood was officially labeled as a terrorist organization in Egypt last year.

In April, about 683 Brotherhood supporters were sentenced to death in Minya based on accusations of committing violence.
