CAIRO: Electricity loads are expected to reach 23,500 MW Wednesday, according to a graph the ministry published on its official website, updated on daily basis, counting electricity load at its maximum and minimum.

After four days of power outages due to the current crisis, the ministry said loads were reduced by 2,000 MW on Tuesday, Youm7 reported. For several days, the average load reduction was close to that number.

According to the ministry, on Sunday, load reduction reached 1,505 MW, and on Monday 1,400 MW. The ministry had decided to exempt touristic installations from power outages.

Youm7 further reported on Tuesday that the ministry is trying to contain energy shortages by cutting power from residential buildings for four days, from Sunday to Wednesday, and factories for the remaining three days of the week.

The Egyptian Electricity Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency will launch a free service to inform citizens in advance about the time of power outagea, through SMS services, Al-Badil news website reported on Wednesday.

The government decided to promote energy rationalization by 20 percent as a fast solution to the crisis, ahead of the summer season. It also decided to stop purchasing electrical equipment that is not energy saving.
