CAIRO: Two people were killed early Thursday after a bomb they were planting exploded in Cairo’s El Tebeen district, Major General Mohamed Qassem, head of the investigations department of the Cairo Security Directorate, told Youm7.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the deaths in a statement.

The incident was the second explosion in Egypt in less than 12 hours. In the city of Arish in North Sinai, 11 were injured when an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle threw a grenade at a military vehicle Wednesday evening, reported MENA.

A medical source told Dostor newspaper that some of the injured military conscripts had their limbs detached from their bodies as a result of the explosion.

The attack was followed by a partial cutting of Internet and phone lines, Youm7 reported.

Five victims have been transferred to Cairo in an airplane for treatment, while the others remain at El Arish Military Hospital, reported MENA.
