CAIRO: Writing “I love you” or drawing “hearts inside the ballot cards in the presidential elections on Monday and Tuesday will not void the votes,” General Secretary of the High Presidential Election Commission (HPEC) Abdel Azizi Salman said Sunday.

“If a voter writes ‘I love you’ in the ballot card check box for a specific person, their votes will not be void. The important thing is that they should not reveal their identity,” Salman said in a talk show Studio el-Balad (State’s Studio) on Sada al-Balad channel.

Salman said that if the voter checked (√) beside one candidate’s photo and (×) besides the other one, their votes are valid.

There is no problem if the voter checked in the box, on the photo, or on the electoral symbol, he said. The two presidential candidates are Abdel Fatah al-Sisi with the symbol of a green star and Hamdeen Sabbahi with the symbol of an eagle.
