4 violations by Sisi campaign, 1 by Sabbahi’s: Ibn Khaldun Center

CAIRO: Among the violations it spotted on the first day of the presidential election Monday, the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies civil society organization said four were committed by candidate Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s campaign and one by the campaign of candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi according to a Monday press release.

The center reported 106 violations overall, with 30 committed by judges,18 by unknown sources, six by security forces, 45 by Sisi supporters and two by Sabbahi supporters.

Dakahlia governorate was the site of most of the violations with 16 irregularities; meanwhile Alexandria had 12, and Cairo and Giza each had 10 according to the center.

Regarding the forms of violations, Ibn Khaldun reported 54 cases of directing voters to vote for a certain candidate, 13 cases of interfering with observers, 12 violent incidents, eight problems related to voters’ lists and five cases of temporary closure of polling stations.
