CAIRO: Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi, 59, won 906 votes in his hometown Balteem while his rivaling candidate Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, 59, got 675 votes. The number of invalid votes was 34 votes, according to Shorouq Wednesday.
Initial results of the elections revealed that Sisi got 23,265,306 votes out of 23,999,606, although the official results by the High Presidential Election Commission (HPEC) are scheduled to be announced on June 5. Sabbahi got 4 percent with 734,300 votes.
In Sabbahi’s hometown Balteem in an area called Tal Ghoweit, Sabbahi’s posters are hung everywhere, and most either support Sabbahi or boycott the elections. Even those who support Sisi are being discreet about it, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported Tuesday.
“Sabbahi’s loss this time will be everybody’s loss and everybody will regret it,” Sabbahi’s cousin Sahar Sabbahi told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
